About Cryptography

Free online cryptography tools for developers, programmers, IT professionals, and privacy-conscious users. Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hashes, create UUIDs, and perform common cryptographic operations directly in your browser. The tools use browser-based cryptography APIs where supported, so the data you enter can be processed locally without uploading the original text to a server. For security-sensitive applications, always use modern and purpose-built cryptographic algorithms appropriate for your specific use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The hash generation tools process your input directly in your browser. Your original text is not required to be uploaded to a server to generate the hash.
Modern browsers restrict certain security features, including parts of the Web Crypto API, to secure contexts. Accessing the site through HTTPS allows supported cryptographic browser APIs to work correctly.
UUID v4 values are generated using a cryptographically strong random number source when supported by the browser. This provides a very large number of possible UUIDs and makes accidental collisions extremely unlikely.
Cryptographic hash functions are designed to be one-way functions, so there is no practical method for simply decrypting a hash back into its original input. However, weak or predictable inputs can sometimes be discovered through guessing, dictionaries, or precomputed data.
They can be useful for development, testing, checksums, identifiers, and other common tasks. For production security systems, choose algorithms and implementations according to current security standards and the requirements of your application.
Do not use MD5, SHA-1, or plain SHA-256 as a password storage method. Passwords should be stored using a password-specific hashing or key-derivation algorithm such as Argon2id, bcrypt, or scrypt, with appropriate parameters and salting.
For normal text inputs, hash generation is usually completed very quickly by modern browsers. Processing extremely large inputs or running many cryptographic operations at once can require more CPU resources.
